Installation

Step 1: Install the Plugin

From WordPress.org (when available):

Log in to your WordPress admin dashboard
Navigate to Plugins → Add New
Search for "LegendLinks" in the search box
Click Install Now on the LegendLinks plugin
After installation, click Activate

From LegendPlugins (before or in addition to the directory): use Download Free Plugin on the marketing site. That opens Freemius Lite checkout (email capture); you’ll receive install instructions or a link (for example the WordPress.org plugin page once it’s published) via the flow configured in Freemius.

Alternative Installation Method:

Upload a ZIP from Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin if you already have the file (e.g. from your Freemius account or a direct release).
Go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin
Choose the ZIP file and click Install Now
Click Activate Plugin

Step 2: Access LegendLinks

After activation, you'll see LegendLinks in your WordPress admin menu. Click it to access the dashboard.

What you'll see:

Dashboard - Overview of your links and statistics
Links - Create and manage all your links
Categories - Organize links into categories
Tags - Add tags for flexible filtering
Templates - Save and reuse link configurations
Analytics - View detailed analytics and reports
Bio Pages - Create link-in-bio pages (Pro plan and higher)

Initial Setup (Recommended)

Step 1: Configure Link Prefix

Go to LegendLinks → Settings → General
Find "Link Prefix" (default is go)
Change it to something memorable (e.g., link, out, ref)
Click Save Settings

Example: With prefix go, your links will be: yoursite.com/go/product-name

Step 2: Set Default Link Attributes (For Affiliate Sites)

If you're creating affiliate links, set defaults:

Go to LegendLinks → Settings → General
Under "Link Attributes (Default)":
- ✅ Check "Nofollow" (recommended for affiliate links)
- ✅ Check "Sponsored" (required for affiliate compliance)
Click Save Settings

Step 3: Enable Amazon Compliance (If Using Amazon Associates)

Go to LegendLinks → Settings → General
Check "Amazon Compliance Mode"
Click Save Settings

This automatically ensures all Amazon links meet compliance requirements.

Creating Your First Link

Quick Method (Simple Link)

Go to LegendLinks → Links
Click "+ New Link" button
Enter your Target URL (the destination link)
- Example: https://example.com/product
(Optional) Enter a Title for organization
(Optional) Enter a Slug (auto-generates if empty)
- Example: product-name
Click "Create Link"

Your short link will be: yoursite.com/go/product-name

Advanced Method (Full Configuration)

For more control, use the full link editor:

Go to LegendLinks → Links → Add New
Fill in all tabs:
- Basic Info: URL, title, slug, redirect type, attributes
- Advanced: Redirect delay, scheduling, custom CSS
- UTM Parameters: Campaign tracking
- Rotation/A/B: Multiple URLs for testing (Pro plan and higher)
- Geo/Device: Location and device targeting (Pro plan and higher)
- Health & Fallback: Broken link monitoring (Pro plan and higher)
